What is your role at Resene and what does it involve?

My role at Resene is a Senior Protective Coatings Representative. My main responsibility is to specify and sell the Resene protective coatings products. My responsibilities encompass various aspects of customer interaction, product knowledge and market analysis.

A significant part of my job is to possess extensive knowledge about different types of coatings systems for corrosion protection. This includes understanding the features, benefits and applications of various paints.

I often conduct demonstrations and workshops to showcase the advantages of specific paints or coatings, collaborate with the marketing team to create promotional materials that highlight product features, as well as provide training and support to contractors who use our products. I often conduct training sessions on application techniques or product usage to ensure that end-users can achieve optimal results with their purchases.

Tell us about one of your favourite projects using Resene.

Fonterra Auckland CBD interior fire rated steel work. This project was a refurbishment job as the existing protective coating and fireproofing system had failed. The products that were used for this project was Resene Armourcote 221 (two-pack zinc phosphate epoxy), Nullifire SC802 (single pack water-based intumescent) and Resene Uracryl 802 topcoat (two-pack waterborne polyurethane).

What made this project fun was that the painter was not able to sandblast the steel onsite, they had to strip the existing coating back to sound primer and start from there. The main challenges came in that the painters could only work at night-time and had to disassemble all the containment and clean up each morning as the offices were still operational during the day. The Resene products are low VOC and low odour and none of the tenants had any complaints about any smells lingering around when they came into the offices. This project finished within budget and on time. The client and the tenant were very happy with the outcome.

The colour used for Fonterra Auckland CBD interior fire rated steel work and beams was Resene Ironsand. Contracted by David Collingson Rise Contracting.

What is your biggest design or product tip?

When preparing and applying protective coatings, it is essential to consult with specialists in the field. Engaging professionals ensures that you receive high-quality results that justify your investment. Always wear the appropriate PPE gear when working with protective coatings.
